Beaverton
Beaverton Oregon is located approximately 7 miles west of Portland in the Tualatin River Valley, Washington County. Hwy 217 connects Beaverton to I-5 as well as Tigard. Hwy 26 traverses the entire state of Oregon and runs directly through Beaverton. Driving from central Beaverton to downtown Portland takes about 15 minutes. The MAX Red and Blue line service Beaverton, providing convenient access to Portland, the Portland Airport, Hillsboro and Gresham.
With over 90,000 residents, Beaverton is a desirable place to call home due to great schools, employment opportunities, lower property taxes and it's proximity to Portland. It is the sixth largest city in Oregon. The city has a family friendly, suburban atmosphere. A 10 year plan to become Oregon's second largest city was implemented in 2004 and has spurred growth in Beaverton. Money magazine named Beaverton on their "Best 100 places to live" list in 2010.
Parks and recreation in the Beaverton region are managed by the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District. THPRD manage 2,200 acres of park space including 60 miles of trails, 7 miles of streams and three lakes. There are 81 parks with play equipment for children, eight swim centers, and many soccer fields, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts. 140 sites in the area provide 1,300 acres of natural space. THPRD provide many community opporunities for all ages including sports teams, community gardening, exercise classes, arts and crafts, and a variety of enriching educational classes.
Cedar Hills Shopping Center, Beaverton Town Square, Washington Square Mall offer a variety of shops including most major department stores. Washington Square Mall alone has over 170 restaurants and stores. Fifteen golf courses are within 10 miles from the heart of Beaverton.
Beaverton is home to several large companies such as Nike, Columbia Sportswear, Tektronics, Maxim, IBM, Reser's Fine Foods, Phoenix Technologies and Electro Scientific Industries. The concentration of high tech industries in Beaverton and Hillsboro is known as the Silicon Forest.
