Multnomah Village, Marco's & Maplewood

So yesterday Melissa and I set off the check out Multnomah Village.  It is the first in an on-going series of blogs, videos, and photographs that we are starting in order to review neighborhoods, restaurants, coffee shops, and stores in order to get a better understanding of what each neighborhood has to offer.  In turn we are hoping this helps your experience as a buyer.

Multnomah Village is in the heart of SW Portland.  It offers an adorable old fashioned Main St. appeal that isn’t found anywhere else in Portland. (Actually as I write that I am thinking that St. John’s also has great Main St. appeal but isn’t as conveniently located to OHSU, downtown, I-5, and PCC Sylvania)Our trip to Multnomah Village included lunch at Marco’s Café one of Multnomah Village’s better known eateries.  Upon entering Marco’s we were met with warmth (literally as it was cold outside, friendly service and cute décor.

The menu was extensive!  However the helpful wait staff helped us decide what to order.  We did however start off with a delicious hot chocolate…I already mentioned it was cold outside!marcos3_400Melissa got a chicken salad with everything; she also had a side of homemade potato chips that had sweet potatoes and russet.  I had the Portobello mushroom  sandwich, it was perfect.  marcos4_400Overall we give Marco’s thumbs up.  After our meal we checked out Thinker Toys which is a great local toy store with a ton of great gifts for kids (and grown up kids.)

Multnomah Village has a lot of great Christmas decorations right now; it would be a great place to stroll around for a family night out.

After hitting the main drag we went for a drive in order to get a feel for what the architecture and flow of the neighborhoods are like, this is a snippet of what we saw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlyX32ioj24 Last but not least we took a little tour of Gabriel Park.  Gabriel Park has something for everyone-a skate park, a dog park, a playground, tennis courts, volleyball, basketball, baseball and a rad walking trail!

In summary we feel like Multnomah Village is a great fit for people looking for an urban retreat, neighborhoods like Multnomah Village, offer a convenient 15 min. drive to downtown but have larger lot sizes than the inner urban experience.  More forested and larger lots offer more privacy as well as a more eclectic array of home styles than the inner east side neighborhoods. Homes will range from early 1900’s to brand new subdivisions.  Many families are drawn to this area for the livability, parks, community center nearby and good schools.  For more information about the schools in Multnomah Village see their websites:
